Holiday Music

I had a funny experience with holiday music that I thought I would share.  The district manager for our franchise stopped by and was a little upset that we were not playing holiday music in our store.  He doesn’t actually have any control over the music that is played, but one of the owners seems to think that we should kiss his ass.  Actually I think that she wants holiday music played in the store, but she is using him as an excuse.  She also doesn’t have to listen to the crap all day.

While the other owner of the store was out of the store (a common experience) she decided that we should play holiday music.  Needless to say the employees that had to listen to the horrible vocal and instrumental renditions of timeless holiday songs immediately began to bitch.  No for the good part.  The very first customer that came in after she turned on the holiday music said, and I quote, “How do you guys stand listening to that f#$king s%@t all day? It’s horrible!”  We immediately burst out laughing.  It really made our day to get some outside support.

Pleasant Network Setup

I recently setup a wireless network for a lady who lives out in the country.  She came into the store and inquired about having someone come to her house and setup her wireless router.  No problem.  She asked about the price, much lower than the geeks, and agreed to make an appointment.  This part was great.  A customer realizes they are unable to do something technical and recognizes that they are going to have to pay someone to do it for them.  No bitching about any of this.

On the day of the install, it was snowing like crazy on the way to her house.  When I arrived she met me at the door and greeted me like an old friend.  We discussed the particulars of what she wanted and placement of equipment.  She even showed me some e-mail pics of animals that someone had sent.  I finished up the install with all equipment was functioning.  I went to leave and she told me to drive safely as it was still snowing heavily.  What a nice lady.  I only wonder why all customers can’t be that pleasant.

Cool Customers

About 90% of our customers are pretty cool.  Its the 10% that causes problems.  So I will tell you about a nice gentleman who comes in our store every day.  He is retired and I think he gets bored, so he rents at least one dvd a day.  He has this old Suburban that he refinished himself.  One day I told him that I liked his vehicle.  He took me outside and showed me all of the various modifications and tweeks he made.  Everyday since we have a nice little conversation about something.  It doesn’t matter what the topic is, we just talk.  He is a great customer.
