We Are Too Soft On People

Posted by n3rvp4in on July 10, 2008

I have decided that as a general rule we in America are too soft on people in a retail environment.  I blame this firmly on Wal-Mart and there “the customer is always right” mindset that was started many years ago.  Not that they fully embrace this philosophy anymore, but they started this mess.  Now when crabby customers come into a small retail store, they expect the same treatment that they think Wal-Mart gives.  They get the shitty attitude and basically treat the sales people as something below them.  The funny part is that they came in to ask you for something.

According to IQ testing, I am in the top 1% of the population.  That means that 99% of the population is “dumber” than me.  I find this funny considering the attitude of people that come in our store looking for things.  I have seen the shittiest attitudes from people that might have average intelligence.  Just for fun I like to say sarcastic things in a manner that makes the comments sound good.  Maybe the customer will even think that I gave them a compliment.  But, I would really just like to be as blunt as possible with people.  Make them cry! Or run from the store in embarrassment.  Every person who has ever  done a stint in the retail world, knows exactly what I mean.  However, due to the fact that almost all Americans do not know how to accept any criticism.  I don’t think that sales people should just attack all the customers.  People that come in and admit that they have no idea what they are doing and they need help are the best customers.  They listen and respectful.  But, people how have no idea what they are doing and get shitty, really piss me off.

Your “Friends”

Posted by n3rvp4in on December 27, 2007

You ever notice how your “friends” are out to screw you every time they get a chance?  I use the term “friends”; however you will notice that there are quotes around it, letting you know that I use it loosely.  Today for example, a “friend” came in wanting to buy a TV.  For some reason he thinks that a $1000 TV only costs a retailer like $250.  The guy was being a real ass about the whole thing.  I just suggested that he go and open his shop and he can deal with people like himself who think we have gigantic markups.  This was a loosing battle though.  No wonder so many small retailers go out of business.
